70 tonnes plastic waste to be used as fuel seized, 10 jaggery-making units sealed

AGRA: Amid worsening air quality in Delhi-National Capital Region area, authorities seized 70 tonnes of waste, mainly plastic, being taken to be burnt as fuel in factories and kolhus (cane-crushing units) and sealed 10 jaggery-making units.According to sub-divisional magistrate (Sadar Muzaffarnagar) Parmanand Jha, the waste was brought from other states to burn in factories and kolhus, and all trucks were seized.Ten jaggery-making units in Muzaffarnagar were also sealed for burning waste like plastic, rubber, and clothes that produce black, poisonous smoke."Apart from sealing units that were burning banned fuel, dozens of industries, mainly paper mills, were warned in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts. Several FIRs were registered on Wednesday and Thursday for causing air pollution," said Ankit Singh, a regional officer in the Muzaffarnagar pollution control department.
