12 suffer burns as firecracker market goes up in flames

AGRA: Twelve people suffered severe burns after a massive fire broke out at a firecracker market in Raya town of Mathura district on Sunday. Locals said the fire brigadeand the police did not arrive on time. Mathura district magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh said, "Eight people who suffered severe burn injuries were shifted to SN Medical College in Agra.More than six firecracker shops were gutted in the fire."In another incident in Agra, a fire broke out at a shop at Gandhi Square in Shamshabad at 10:30 pm on Sunday night. Locals initially tried to extinguish the fire but they could not do so. It took nearly two hours for the fire brigade to bring the blaze under control. The shop owner claims goods worth lakhs were damaged.In Muzaffarnagar, fire broke out at a house under the Civil Lines police station area after flames spread from a diya on Sunday night. Fire tenders managed to douse the flames after many hours, said police.
