Over 200 water meters near Taj Mahal stolen, FIR lodged

Agra: An FIR was registered against unknown persons for stealing water meters installed in Tajganj locality near the Taj Mahal under the Smart City project. According to the FIR lodged after a complaint by general manager of Agra Smart City project Arun Kumar, these meters were installed under the area-based development plan in Tajganj to monitor the consumption of residents and to charge them for it accordingly.A pipeline was laid to ensure 24-hour water supply. Smart City project officials claimed the meters werestolen by locals so that they wouldnt have to pay their water bills. Some also damaged the pipeline to get direct water supply to their homes. On October 26, a complaint was filed about the issue but no FIR was lodged. SHO (Tajganj) Devendra Shanker Pandey said, "On the basis of a complaint, an FIR was registered on a theft charge. The CCTV footage from the area is being examined." The bank has managed to recover Rs 649 crore, or about 79% of the amount, and is taking action to recover the remaining Rs 171 crore. The bank has also reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. The bank has temporarily suspended its Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), but other transactions are still available. The banks CEO, Ashani Kumar, has not ruled out human error or a cyber attack as possible causes.
