Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Eknath Shinde has become the third chief minister, after Devendra Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray, to pledge support for the development of Saibaba birthplace at Pathri in Parbhani district. The assurances made by the two former CMs have gone up in smoke as the development plan of the Saibaba birthplace continues to await a formal approval from the state government, said the temple trustees.Shinde announced Rs 91.8 crore for the birthplace development during a special state cabinet held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on September 16. Temple trustees, however, have drawn attention to Rs 149 crore promised earlier during the MVA governments tenure. The redevelopment plan for the Saibaba birthplace was first prepared and submitted before the government by the local civic body when Fadnavis was the CM. Later, the proposal was forwarded to a high-powered committee. Till date, there has been no approval for the plan, said Atul Choudhari, one of the temple trustees at Pathri.Another trustee, Sanjay Bhusari said the high-powered committee had asked that certain works should be curtailed. The authorities asked us to remove works related to the construction of a Bhakt Niwas. We agreed to it in the hope that the development would get the desired push. The government should have approved the development plan without the Bhakt Niwas by now, he said.Seeking formal approval of the development plan and immediate release of the first instalment of funds, temple trustees said the money could be utilized for land acquisition among other purposes. The political row over taking credit has been delaying the development of Pathri, trustees said.As per records available from the Parbhani district administration, field research in 1970 established that Saibaba was born in Pathri village, located about 150km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. A Sai memorial committee was then formed, which purchased land for the temple at the site of Saibabas house. The temple was inaugurated in 1999 and has been attracting a large number of devotees, the trustees added.Parbhani district guardian minister Tanaji Sawant could not be reached for his comments. We also published the following articles recentlyAdmin to prepare plan for development of SurganaThe Nashik district administration is working on a developmental plan for the Surgana taluka, which has been included in the national aspirational block development program by the NITI Aayog.
