Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Vibrant beats of dhol-tasha and chants of Ganapati Bappa Morya reverberated in the air as the city welcomed Lord Ganesha on a grand note on Tuesday.The day began with crowds of devotees at all popular markets across the city for the purchase of idols. People turned up in traditional attire with their family members.Later in the day, processions were taken out by the different mandals taking Ganapati idols to their pandals amid spirited celebrations.Many parts of the city witnessed a short spell of drizzle during the evening, further setting the tone for the festive celebrations.Neeta Kulkarni, a homemaker, said the Ganesh festival was her favourite. Ganesha is revered as the Lord of Wisdom. The 10 days of Ganeshotsav are marked with great enthusiasm every year. The festival provides energy that lasts throughout the year, she said.Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has a unique federation of over 1,500 Ganesh mandals in the city. The federation has announced a range of programmes during the festival days. Federations founder president Prithviraj Pawar said an appeal has been made to all mandals for eco-friendly and peaceful celebrations. The Ganesh festival is an opportunity for social awakening. This very spirit of the festival must not be ignored while carrying out the celebrations, he said.Bigger temple for Sansthan Ganapati soon At the Sansthan Ganapati temple, which is hailed as the local deity, the installation ceremony of the Ganesha idol took place in the presence of leaders from different political parties.
