Bamu invites applications for post of new VC

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The process of appointing the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) has been formally started with a search committee being constituted on Monday inviting applications from aspirants. Headed by former chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education Anil Sahasrabudhe, the committee has called for applications till October 19, following which further scrutiny will be carried out. While the term of the current VC is scheduled to end by December, the search committee is expected to appoint his successor before that. Hailed as one of the oldest universities in the country established in 1958, BAMU has jurisdiction over half of Marathwada with a collective student strength of more than 4.4 lakh studying in over 450 affiliated colleges. Student activist Tukaram Saraf said that the process of appointment of the new VC for BAMU must be carried out in a transparent and accountable manner. If possible, the search committee may livestream interviews and other screening of aspirants. Such transparency would ensure selection of the VC without any influences, he said.KG Suresh, the VC of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, and Sudhakar Yedla, director, NIT Srinagar, are members of search committee, which has Vikas Chandra Rastogi, principal secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department as its member secretary.
