Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Administrator, G. Shreekanth, has issued directives asking all the two-wheeler riding staffers to mandatorily wear helmets while reporting to the office.Through this communication issued on Wednesday, the civic body administrator has warned of a spot fine of Rs 2000 for violating the directives that would come into force starting Monday. This is the first time that such a directive has been issued by the civic body. In the communication sent to all the heads of the departments, the administrator has asked them to communicate the same to all the permanent, daily staffers and the contractual staffers under them.According to the plan, the fine will be imposed and collected by the security staff, including ex-servicemen, who will be compulsorily deployed at all the civic body offices in the city. When contacted, Shreekanth justified his decision while stating that it had been taken in the interest of our staffers. In accordance with the law, wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler is compulsory. In certain cities, it is mandatory, even for pillion riders. Statistics with different government departments indicate that in the majority of road accidents, fatalities are the result of head injuries, and we do not want any such untoward incident taking place with our staffers, he said.Another officer privy to the move said that instructions have also been given to the security staffers to video record the violators so that there is no scope for allegations and counter-allegations.There are also plans to apply similar criteria for the citizens visiting the civic body offices for any work so that slowly and gradually, it also gets implemented in the city, said an officer of the deputy municipal commissioner rank.It must be noted that in May this year, the state transport commissioner, Vivek Bhimanwar, issued a directive that any government, semi-government, or local civic corporation employee not wearing a helmet will be prosecuted and fined. The directive also stated that action can be taken against the heads of government departments whose officials flout the helmet rule while coming to the workplace. We also published the following articles recentlyGrand festivities start at Chhatrapati SambhajinagarThe city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in India welcomed Lord Ganesha with vibrant celebrations and processions.
