BJP seeks action against illegal lottery centres

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The BJPs city unit has requested police to take action against all illegal business units, particularly lottery centres.This comes in the wake of the Cidco police raiding two illegal lottery centres on Wednesday and registering two FIRs. In both cases, the accused had claimed that all the articles, including computers, printers, and their software, had been provided by one Chandu Dongaonkar. Based on the information, Dongaonkar was named as one of the accused in the two FIRs.Amid reports of the booked suspect being a BJP worker, the partys city president, Shirish Boralkar, said he was not aware of any active BJP worker by that name. State minister Atul Save, however, confirmed that there was a party worker of the said name, but he was not aware if the lottery centre being run by him was legitimate or not.BJP city vice-president Arvind Dongaonkar has now sent a letter to police seeking immediate action against all illegal business units, particularly lottery centres.In his letter, a copy of which is with TOI, he said, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is a historical city and attracts large number of domestic as well as foreign tourists. Due to the illegal businesses in the city, there has been an increase in the crime rate. Dongaonkar, a lawyer by profession, has sought action against five types of illegal businesses — lottery centres, matka (a form of gambling), gutka trading, illicit liquor trading and sand lifting and trading. When contacted, Dongaonkar said, We strongly condemn the act of associating the perpetrators of illegal businesses to our party. I will lodge a complaint and demand a check on all illegal businesses in the city. DCP (Zone-II) Shilwant Nandedkar said, We want citizens support to curb illegal businesses. DCP (Zone-I) Nitin Bagate said the process of gathering details for initiating action was on.
