Cops nab forgery expert of interstate vehicle theft gang

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A member of an interstate gang of vehicle thieves, accused of forging important details of vehicles stolen by his accomplices before selling them, was nabbed by the local crime branch.The local crime branch of the district rural police told TOI that the arrested man, Ibrahim Patel, was a resident of Kunjkheda of Kannad tehsil of Aurangabad district. He previously was stationed at Bhat Antarwali in Gevrai of Beed district.Superintendent of police Maneesh Kalwaniya said, The LCB acted on a specific input, which stated that the accused was a key member of an interstate gang of vehicle thieves. His job was to forge documents, registration as well as chassis number of these vehicles before selling them off.The officer said that all these vehicles were found to be stolen from different states, including Rajasthan and Haryana.There are a total of 12 vehicles including excavators, tractors, SUVs and bikes, collectively worth Rs 1.1 crore that were sold off locally through the arrested accused. These vehicles have been recovered and seized, said the officer.The local crime branch inspector said that the investigation started with a clue about a vehicle with registration number from Delhi, which was parked suspiciously in the shade.During the questioning, the arrested accused caved-in and confessed about all that he allegedly committed as a member of this racket in the recent past, said LCB inspector Satish Wagh.Those privy to the probe maintained that the arrested accused has confessed of getting into these criminal activities for making quick money.Police said that they were also checking if officials or staffers from the regional transport office had a role in this case either in Maharashtra or the states from where these vehicles were stolen. The violations were detected by the Vehicle Location Tracking Device installed in the vehicles. The transport department has directed to issue e-challan to these vehicles and fines will be imposed. If the vehicles are caught violating the speed limit four times in a row, their permit will be suspended.Crime branch arrests chain snatcher, jeweller in cityA notorious snatcher who targeted gold chains in Jaipur has been arrested along with a jeweler who bought the stolen chains. The snatcher and his accomplice would use knives to snatch the chains. In another incident, a man was arrested in Goa for snatching a gold chain, while in Bhopal, two individuals on a sports bike snatched a womans gold chain. A four-member chain-snatching gang was also apprehended in Coimbatore.
