50 Marathwada circles record heavy rain; Aurangabad dist gets 170% of Sept quota

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: In the Marathwada region, 50 revenue circles, including 20 in Aurangabad district, received more than 65mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending Saturday night.Some places in Aurangabad district received very heavy rainfall, of more than 115mm, taking the average tally of rainfall in September to 205mm. This is 170% of normal rainfall for the month. Barring two cattle deaths in the district due to rain-related incidents, no loss of human life or property damage has been recorded, the authorities said.In Aurangabad district, the official data reveals heavy rainfall in Chittepimpalgaon (151mm), Verul (125 mm), Bidkin (124 mm), Garaj (124 mm), Ambhai (118 mm) and Kanchanwadi (111 mm) circles. In neighbouring Jalna district, Badnapur circle recorded 154mm showers. This was the highest in Marathwada. Meanwhile, Beed got 9mm rain followed by Nanded (5mm), Parbhani and Hingoli (3mm each). Latur and Osmanabad districts recorded 9mm rainfall each, marking widespread rainfall activity in the region.The rain started in many parts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar post 8pm on Saturday and a sustained spell of medium to heavy showers lasted nearly three hours, followed by intermittent showers till early Sunday morning. The low-lying areas including the chowk in front of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation witnessed waterlogging for a brief period.Aurangabad district disaster management officer Maruti Mhaske said a cattle death was reported in Phulambri and Khuldabad taluka on Saturday night. "Given the forecast of more rain till the end of the month, the disaster management department is geared up to deal with any eventuality. People living on the banks of rivers and nullahs need to keep an eye out for flash floods which may be caused due to the rain," he said.
