Fourth FIR in Adarsh scam; Mankape, 10 aides booked

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The economic offences wing (EOW) of the city police, probing the Adarsh credit cooperative scam, lodged the fourth FIR against 11 people. In the latest FIR registered on Thursday the accused have been booked for allegedly misappropriating and swindling an amount of Rs2.88 crore in the Jilha Krushi Audyogik Bahu-Udeshya Sahkar Sanstha, a multipurpose agri co-operative society. Based on the complaint by cooperative societies special auditor Dattatray Dhumal, the 11 suspects led by 83-year-old Ambadas Mankape have been booked on the charges of criminal breach of trust, criminal breach of trust by clerk, criminal breach of trust by public servant, cheating, forgery, forgery for cheating, and criminal conspiracy. EOW inspector Sambhaji Pawar said, According to the first two FIRs, the accused have allegedly committed cheating of Rs202 crore, while the third FIR has been registered for cheating to the tune of over Rs35 crore. The officer said that in the latest case, the special auditors have found that the accused systematically diverted money and even fabricated entries in the records to present a false impression of the financial situation. The accused transferred large sums of money to a builders private limited firm without any interest or fees, an officer added. The victim appeared virtually before the court and had no objection to quashing the FIR. The court ordered the case to be closed, subject to the accuseds contribution.
