After Sable’s golden run in Hangzhou, parents hope for road to home village

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Avinash Sables golden run in Hangzhou has rekindled hopes for a motorable road to Mandva, the steeplechasers home village in Maharashtras Beed district. All that the parents of the first Indian to bag a gold in 3,000m steeplechase in Asian Games want is the government to construct a road fit for vehicles to reach the village in the interiors of Ashti tehsil of Beed district.Mukund and Vaishali, the 29-year-old athletes parents who continue to work as brick kiln workers and sugar cane cutters, have now come forward to take up the fellow 1,600 villagers demand for years. My son has made India, Maharashtra, Beed and our Mandva proud. However, our village does not have a proper road. The villagers have been for years waiting for a road. This is not the first time that we are raising the demand for a road to the village, said Mukund. Vaishali, Avinashs mother, said, Considering all the name and fame my son has brought to the nation, we hope that the state fulfills our demand for a road. Avinash, who is currently serving the Indian Army, became the first Indian to secure a gold in the 3000m steeplechase event in Asian Games. On Monday, the villagers, led by sarpanch Deva Dhumal, tied Pheta (ceremonial headgear) to Mukund and Vaishali as a mark of respect to Avinashs achievement. Dumal said, It is through this unmotorable road that our Avinash will have to return home. Besides a motorable road, we want a playground. The existing road has been damaged due to the construction of a four-lane road, causing difficulties for farmers. The minister instructed officials to find a solution without disrupting the four-lane project.
