Minority community upset as 3 Urdu schools face closure

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The civic body has decided to shut down three of its Urdu-medium schools running within the municipal limits, evoking sharp reactions from the minority community. While the affected students have been accommodated in other nearby schools, the All India Urdu Teachers Association has opposed the move. The Urdu school located at Sillekhana is getting closed owing to the dilapidated state of the building, while another such institution at Shahasokhata colony is facing closure as the building has put in high-risk category. The third school at Jinsi is also facing closure due to very low enrolment.President of All India Urdu Teachers Association Khan Yasar said the students would have to travel far distances to pursue education after the three schools are closed. It is unjust to close down schools without consulting stakeholders. The authorities cannot work in such an autocratic manner, he said.Civic activist Mohsin Ahmed said the CSMC should have considered repair of old school buildings. The repairs could have been done during Diwali vacation. Otherwise, the civic administration could have considered running schools in rented premises. The closure of schools is an illegal decision and we will fight against it, he said. The CSMC has a total of 70 schools, including 23 Urdu schools, having a strength of around 18,000 students.The decision is taken in the interest of students. The board also emphasizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality and creating a supportive environment. Additionally, staff monthly meetings will be held during the morning session to allow them to participate in school meetings while fulfilling their parental responsibilities. The board believes that accommodating these staff is both a legal requirement and in line with their values of inclusivity and support.
