CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, whose fast-unto-death for quota for Marathas entered the fifth day on Sunday, warned that if his "heart stops beating", so would the state governments as two governing alliance MPs threw their weight behind the cause -Senas Hemant Patil said he would quit on Monday, while BJPs Sudhakar Shrangare wrote to the CM and the two deputy CMs on the issue. On Sunday, Jarange-Patil looked weaker, his speech punctuated by stutters and shivers, sparking concerns among family, supporters and community members."I feel I would be able to talk today and tomorrow. Nobody will stop them (government representatives) from coming here to talk. But, after I am unable to speak, there would be no use of the government coming to talk to me. If my heart stops beating, the state governments heart, too, would stop beating," he said.He warned that the third phase of the agitation, to begin in two days, will make things tougher for the government, adding that the strategy will be announced on Monday. He urged Marathas to abstain from violence amid reports of politicians vehicles being pelted with stones and being barred from villages.Hemant Patil, Shinde camp MP, announced his decision to quit in support of the cause after activists stopped his car in Hingoli, his constituency. He said he would hand over his resignation letter to the LS speaker on Monday. In his letters to CM Eknath Shinde and deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Latur BJP MP Sudhakar Shrangare urged them to give Marathas "a legally lasting reservation", becoming the first such from BJP to do so.The growing anger against politicians disrupted state BJP chief Chandrakant Bawankules public event for the second consecutive day on Sunday. While he addressed party workers in Dombivli, a youth began raising pro-Maratha slogans. BJP workers forced the youth to raise "Jai BJP" slogans. On Saturday, Bawankule was shown black flags by Marathas in Kalyan. The anger wasnt limited to politicians. A few buses were torched late on Saturday. Jalna tehsildars Chaya Pawars vehicle was pelted with stones and the images of Shinde, Fadnavis, Pawar and the PM on many buses were defaced on Sunday.
