Maratha reservation: NCP MLA Prakash Solanke`s house in Maharashtra`s Beed set on fire

MUMBAI: The ongoing protest over Maratha reservation took a violent turn on Monday after some of the agitators set the residence of NCP MLA Prakash Solanke on fire in Majalgaon area in Maharashtras Beed district.The Maratha agitation once again intensified after quota activist Manoj Jarange sat on an indefinite fast from October 25 at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district as part of the second phase of the protest."I was inside my home when it was attacked. Fortunately, none of my family members or staff were injured. We are all safe but there is a huge loss of property due to fire," reported ANI quoting Solanke, whose residence in Beed was attacked.The protestors also torched the vehicles parked in the premises of the house.Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde said, "Manoj Jarange Patil (Maratha reservation activist) should take note of the fact what turn this protest is taking. It is going in the wrong direction."The chief minister has appealed to maintain peace and not fall prey to attempts to disturb the peace.Meanwhile, Shinde said that they will formally accept the report of the Justice Shinde committee on providing Maratha reservation in the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and orders will be issued by the revenue department to issue Kunbi caste certificates.In another development, Jarange has refused to get a health check-up done even as CM Shinde appealed to to drink water and seek medical help.The Maharashtra government has stated is that it is committed to granting reservation to the Maratha community which stands legal scrutiny.Watch Maratha quota protest: NCP MLA Prakash Solankes house torched by protesters, vehicles set on fire
