Beed route DEMU service still suspended after fire accident

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The train services of Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) on the Ahmednagar-Ashti route continues to remain suspended after a fire incident in its five coaches on October 16. Central Railway (CR) authorities cited the unavailability of a rake among other reasons for not resuming service on the route. Some infrastructural work is also being undertaken in the section and DEMU train service could obstruct those activities, a CR official said, preferring anonymity.The railway authorities also highlighted the poor passenger occupancy for the DEMU service, which completed one year in September.The Ashti railway station is nearly 20 km away from the town and is dissuading many potential passengers from using the DEMU train services. We hope there will be more takers of the services when the entire stretch between Parli and Ahmednagar gets completed, authorities said.CR officials said the exact cause behind the October 16 fire incident was yet to be ascertained.
