Police in Marathwada registered 186 FIRs for violence during stir

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The police in the eight districts of Marathwada have registered as many as 186 FIRs for instances of violence, considered serious offences, in the region between October 25 and November 1. The government has assured withdrawal of cases for non-serious offences.A fresh agitation for Maratha quotastarted from October 25 when quota activist Manoj Jarange began his indefinite hunger strike.There was violence in parts of the state after agitators damaged offices and residences of elected representatives, resorted to stone pelting and burnt tyres. The police have so far arrested 360 people in connection with the violence reported during the agitation till November 1.Out of the total arrested so far, Nanded police have held 168 people in connection with the 31 FIRs in the district. This is the highest number of arrests in Marathwada region. The Beed police have registered 65 cases and arrested 134 people, said Aurangabad ranges special inspector general of police Dnyaneshwar Chavan.In the range comprising Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural, Jalna, Beed and Dharashiv districts, the Beed police have registered seven cases of attempt to murder for instances of damage to homes and properties of MLAs. Some cases for using criminal force to deter public servant from performing official duty have also been registered. Beed superintendent of police Nand Kumar Thakur said, We have formed dedicated teams under IPS Pankaj Kumawat to detect the cases. We have also made a WhatsApp number public for people to share details, including photos, CCTV footage of the violence. Identity of the citizens sharing details will not be revealed. According to the stats provided by Nanded range special IGP Shashikant Mahawarkar, four cases of using criminal force to deter public servants from performing official duty have been registered in range comprising Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and Latur districts. Nanded superintendent of police Shrikrishna Kokate, who was injured in a stone pelting incident, said, The FIRs have been registered and action is being taken against all those who took to violence. Latur registered three cases, followed by five in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city and 10 in Hingoli district.
