CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A state government delegation reached out to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange on Saturday and handed over a copy of the November 3 GR extending Shinde committees scope and jurisdiction to entire Maharashtra.Jarange, who is currently recuperating at a city-based private hospital, told the members of the delegation, led by district guardian minister Sandipan Bhumre, that deadline for meeting the reservation demand was December 24 and the state government should refrain from lying about it.Among the demands of Jarange is that Marathas be given Kunbi certificates so that they can get reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) segment. The state government had appointed a committee under retired judge Sandeep Shinde to study this demand and how it can be implemented.During the interaction, Jarange told Bhumre, "The government should not lie about the deadline for meeting the reservation demand, which was mutually decided to be December 24. If they want, Ill give extension of another 10-15 days, but they [the state government] should not lie about it."The minister said it was a petty issue and would be resolved. "There is a possibility of meeting the Maratha reservation demand even before the said deadline. If things dont fall in place, there might be a delay of few days," Bhumre said.During the day, former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati also paid a visit to Jarange in the hospital. After meeting the activist, he said, "After Jarange called off his fast, I thought I should pay a courtesy visit to not only enquire about his health, but also give him strength for the future fight. I have requested the medical team attending to him to not discharge him in a hurry. He should be discharged only after complete recovery."
