Mumbai artist creates murals of diabetic celebrities

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Ranjit Dahiya, a Mumbai-based graphic designer and artist acclaimed for his striking Bollywood murals, has created a mural of four iconic personalities conquering Type 1 Diabetes.Titled Guts Hain, the mural features Nick Jonas, an American music sensation, Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan, the Bollywood duo from the film Khubsoorat; and Alexander Zverev, a German tennis player ranked as the world number 2 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).The attractive mural has adorned the walls of NGO Udaan, working for the welfare of children with Type-1 Diabetes. Dahiya was on a visit to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to explore the heritage and reconnect with a college friend when he crossed paths with the Udaan team and was deeply moved by their work. In a gesture of courage and hope, I offered to create a mural titled Guts Hain. It is inspired by the resilience of famous individuals who have thrived despite the challenges of Type 1 Diabetes, he said. Recognised for his larger-than-life artistry on the streets of Mumbai and other cities as a part of his Bollywood Art Project, which he launched in 2012, coinciding with Indian cinemas centenary celebration, Dahiya spent several hours on Friday giving shape to the mural in the city in his signature style.Udaan founder Dr Archana Sarda said it is heartening to see the city featuring as the latest addition in Dahiyas illustrious art forms. His contribution is a symbol of encouragement and a tribute to the achievements of remarkable individuals. It will inspire many children and parents whose lives have been affected due to Type 1 Diabetes, she said.The Bollywood Art Project left an indelible mark on the cityscape of Mumbai, adorning its streets with stunning depictions of legends from Hindi film industry such as Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Dharmendra, Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan. These murals serve as a powerful embodiment of nostalgia and history, paying homage to the rich cinematic legacy. The project graced prominent buildings in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and beyond, with 70 Bollywood murals across India, France, USA and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar became another city touched by the famous Dahiya.
