Making mockery of demand will be bad for govt: Jarange

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange on Friday said the state government as well as its delegation had failed to provide him a written assurance on reservation and warned against making a mockery of the Maratha community.Jarange said, When the delegation sought a final extension to meet our demand for reservation, they had said that a written assurance about fulfilling the demand and setting a deadline will be issued in two days.So far, we have not got any such written assurance. A few days back, I got a call from the CMs office that since he was busy, his signature could not be obtained. Yesterday too, I got a call and was told the same thing. If the government is going to make a mockery of the Maratha community demand (by neither giving the written assurance nor the reservation), then things will be very difficult for the state government.MLA Bachchu Kadu, who helped the state government broker peace with Jarange on November 2, late on Thursday night visited the city-based private hospital where Jarange is recuperating. Speaking about the visit, Jarange said, I have raised the issue of insufficient manpower provided for screening and collecting the Kunbi records. In some districts like Raigad, the work is yet to begin. I want to remind the government that the deadline for granting reservation to entire Maratha community is December 24.He also raised the issue of records screening committees struggling to get stationary budget. He urged chief minister Eknath Shinde to ensure that the screening of records does not take a toll due to lack of manpower or lack of budgetary provision. The activist also expressed his concern over the slow progress of screening the documents across the Marathwada. On the reports of minister Chhagan Bhujbal suggesting increasing the reservation percentage, Jarange said, We just want Maratha community from across the state to be recognised as Kunbi and be included in OBC. Later, if the reservation cap is lifted and taken to 90%, we are least bothered. Without naming Chhagan Bhujbal, a Maharashtra cabinet minister, Jarange claimed that OBC leaders were pressurizing the police to connect Maratha youth with the violence, in a bid to demoralize and discourage them from future protests. He also alleged that ruling parties were attempting to tarnish their agitation by blaming outside elements as Maratha agitators responsible for the violence. Jarange has set a deadline of December 24 for the state government to fulfill the demand for Maratha quota.Maharashtra ministers meet quota activist Jarange to inform about extension of Shinde committees scopeMaharashtra ministers Sandipan Bhumre and Atul Save have met Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange to extend the scope of the Shinde Committee. Jarange is demanding that Marathas be given Kunbi certificates so they can receive reservation under the Other Backward Classes category. The committee, led by retired judge Sandeep Shinde, is studying this demand and how it can be implemented. The ministers believe that the issue will be resolved soon. Former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati also met Jarange and expressed support for his cause.
