Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The campus of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) has witnessed the plantation of over 7,000 saplings using the Miyawaki method. In this method, saplings are planted at closer intervals than normal using compost material in pits. The plants are said to grow faster because of the space and compost materials given to the soil, creating a green cover within a few years. The plantation is done in the new building of the Paul Hebert Center for DNA Barcoding and Biodiversity Studies. The plantation was carried out under corporate social responsibility through the NGO EcoSattva and the National Service Scheme department of the university. Over 45 different tree species have been planted at the site, which is expected to emerge as a major biodiversity hub, BAMU Vice Chancellor Pramod Yeole said. The new building of the Paul Hebert Center for DNA Barcoding and Biodiversity Studies earlier witnessed the plantation of over 10,000 saplings using the Miyawaki method. Natasha Zarine, director of EcoSattva, said conscious efforts would be taken to ensure all planted saplings survive. The plantation will not only improve the green cover of the university but will also make it a biodiversity hotspot. The focus on the plantation of indigenous species of trees will help the ecosystem at large, she said.We also published the following articles recentlyActress Kinjal Rajpriya rings in Diwali with a green twist: Plants trees, advocates Vocal for LocalGujarati actress Kinjal Rajpriya celebrated Diwali in an eco-friendly way by planting trees and decorating her home with pots, plants, clay, and fertilizer.
