Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange on Wednesday reached out to Beed superintendent of police Nand Kumar Thakur, and complained that innocent Maratha youths were being framed in cases.Jarange appealed to Thakur to stop the police from harassing innocents who have nothing to do with the arson and riots that rocked Beed district in October.Rioters had targeted the bungalows of several MLAs and former ministers in Beed district while they, and their families, were at home. This prompted the state home department to take serious cognizance of the violence. Home minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced the registration of attempted murder cases against the rioters. Jarange alleged that some police officers are harassing youths, despite their names not reflecting in the FIRs. Some officials are unnecessarily summoning the youths and making extra efforts to name them as accused in these cases, he told a group of journalists after his meeting with the SP. He also raised questions about the police invoking IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) on a large number of youths. He alleged that people who have actively backed the ongoing Maratha agitation are among those being arrested. Our humble request is that the innocents should not be framed in these cases. Action underway against the innocent people should stop, said Jarange. The quota activist, after meeting Thakur, said even those who have nothing to do with the acts of torching properties, and people who are in no way linked to the violence are being framed. I have been told that some people, who had completed their police custody, were remanded in judicial custody, and the police then took them in custody in other cases. I have told the SP that we have nothing to say about those who actually have committed these acts, but innocents should not be framed, said Jarange. The activist said that he got to know that the police have prepared two-three different lists to arrest the accused. We also published the following articles recentlyLoP & Jarange in a verbal duel on reservationVijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, has accused Maratha activist Manoj Jarange of threatening the Maharashtra government over the reservation issue.
