One booked for posting Jarange’s morphed pic

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Beed district police have booked a suspect on the charge of promoting enmity between different groups after he shared Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jaranges morphed picture online along with state food and civil minister Chhagan Bhujbal. The Pimpalner police registered the FIR against Santosh Kale on the basis of a complaint lodged by a 45-year-old farmer, Mahadev Shelke.The FIR was lodged under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505(2) (making statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). As per the complaint, the accused allegedly posted a morphed picture online of Jarange folding his hands and sitting on the ground in front of Bhujbal, seen sitting on a chair. The photo invited a strong reaction from the Maratha community members in the Beed district, which recently witnessed large-scale violence. Beed district collector Nand Kumar Thakur told TOI, We have registered the case and immediately arrested the accused. We appeal to the citizens to abstain from misusing social media. Meanwhile, an FIR was registered on Sunday in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural for tearing a banner with Jaranges photo. A similar incident was reported from another part of the district on Tuesday. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural SP, Maneesh Kalwaniya, said, The misuse of social media is turning out to be a tool to disrupt peace and create tension. We have instructed our police station chiefs to initiate strict action against those indulging in any such acts. Bhujbal criticized the police for their handling of the protests and demanded a caste-based census. He also mentioned the absence of housing minister Atul Save and former minister Pankaja Munde from the OBC rally, despite their prominent positions as OBC leaders. Munde later stated that she holds Bhujbal in high regard and supports the OBC cause.Jarange says could take stir to MumbaiMaratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has suggested that if the Maharashtra government does not fulfill the demands of the Maratha community by December 24, the reservation protests could spread to Mumbai. Speaking to community members in Thane, Jarange expressed hope that the Chief Minister would address their concerns. However, he warned that if their right to reservation is not granted, the Maratha groups will organize a larger and more intense protest, possibly in Mumbai.
