Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: An ex-serviceman, hailing from Washim district, in an attempt to get free cochlear implant surgery for his daughter at a charitable hospital in the city, claimed to be belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category and submitted forged income certificates showing his annual income to be Rs35,000 per annum.While investigating the ex-servicemans complaint that the charitable hospital failed to provide any facility or financial assistance for his daughters surgery, the charity commissioners office went through the complainants file and based on the income certificates as well as the Aadhar card found in it, made written communications to the authorities in Amravati district.The charity commissioners office received the replies informing that the man hails from Washim and not Amaravati and is an ex-serviceman drawing a monthly pension from the Army and has farmland.The communications disclosed that the complainant man was drawing an annual pension of Rs4.80 lakh and a minimum of Rs50,000 annual income from his farmland.The preliminary probe also found that the suspect also took benefits of health department-related schemes meant for extremely poor people. Based on the complaint lodged by the charity commissioner offices Varsha Surkutle (superintendent, hospital branch), the Kranti Chowk police have booked the ex-serviceman on the charges of cheating and forgery.Kranti Chowk police inspector Santosh Patil said earlier this year, the suspect admitted his daughter to Dr Hegdewar hospital, where she underwent surgery, for which the other hospitals were reportedly charging Rs20 lakh.
