Six days after last rites, 19-year-old’s body exhumed

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The body of a 19-year-old youth, who was claimed to have committed suicide, was exhumed from the city-based Ganj-e-Shahida graveyard and an autopsy was performed at the government medical college and hospital on Thursday.The boys parents suspect their son was murdered as the autopsy has revealed six deep injuries (cuts and stabs) on the body.Citing the complaint lodged by the youths father, the police said the deceased, identified as Saleh Hilabi of Kausar Park in Naregaon area, had gone to his aunts place in Ghansawangi, Jalna, on November 12. On the evening of November 17, Saleh parents were informed that he had committed suicide, and the body was brought to their home.Seeing Salehs body, his parents fell unconscious. Suspiciously, some of their relatives quickly took the body to the third floor of the house — to bathe and shroud it. And within hours, at 3am, the last rites were performed, said an officer privy to the investigation.The following day, Salehs father recalled the marks he had seen on his deceased sons face and started questioning the relatives. He even contacted the Ghansawangi police station and said he suspected that Saleh was murdered. However, he was turned away.On Wednesday, the youths father and some relatives contacted Jalnas SP and lodged a complaint. Taking cognizance of the same, a fresh probe was ordered and the police reached out to the court to seek permission to exhume the body. After getting the permission, the police team inspected the graveyard on Wednesday, and on Thursday, in the presence of the tehsildar, did the panchnama and took the body for autopsy.
