Indian research team gets UK patent for ortho device

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A group of 10 researchers from different parts of India, including one from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, on Wednesday bagged a patent from a United Kingdom-based intellectual property office for their invention of an orthopaedic support for a diabetic foot ulcer.The device, aimed at diabetic patients, will help them recover from foot ulcers and also prevent the ulcers to develop into gangrene or sepsis.Aurangabad Pharmacy College principal Dr Muzaffar Ahmed Farooqui, told TOI, The biggest challenge for diabetic patients is that any injury to their foot results into serious complications. It may turn into amputations and even life threatening situations. He said that this innovation holds promising implications for the pharmaceutical industry which cater to diabetic patients. The researchers made the application at the Comptroller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, an intellectual property office in UK, in July.
