₹2.2cr loan recovery notices baffle Adarshpetrol tanker drivers

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Two brothers employed as tanker drivers at a petrol pump owned by Adarsh loan scam key accused Ambadas Mankape were left stunned by notices from Adarsh Mahila Nagari Sahakari Bank Limited asking them to repay an outstanding of Rs 2.17 crore towards loans they had never taken.Mankape is the key accused in the Adarsh loan scam worth over Rs 200 crore and is currently in jail along with his family members and some staffers and members of the management.In the latest development, Yogesh Dadhe (42) and Suresh (27), both residents of Naygavhan in Phulambri tehsil of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, have received the recovery notices.Suresh told TOI, We both are employed at Mankapes petrol pump as tanker drivers for the many years. Sometime ago, a case was registered against Mankape. In good faith, we gave our identity proofs and 7/12 extracts as surety for his bail. Now, we have received recovery notices for an outstanding of Rs 2.17 crore.On receiving the notices, the brother duo went to the bank and found that their signatures were forged for making applications for the loans. The two recovery notices stated that a loan of Rs 80 lakh was availed in the name of Suresh and Yogesh on January 7, 2020. Another loan of Rs 75 lakh was availed on February 5, 2020, in the name of Yogesh and his wife, Rohini. The notices stated that due to non-payment of the loans, the outstanding has increased to Rs 2.17 crore.Economic offences wing inspector Sambhaji Pawar told TOI, Due to the irregularities in the banks headed by Mankape and his family members, the Reserve Bank of India has appointed an administrator at the two financial institutions, including Adarsh Mahila Bank. Indias unsecured lending segment has become competitive with banks, NBFCs, and fintech companies aggressively growing loans. While banks can absorb higher risk weights on their capital, the impact may vary among individual lenders depending on their exposure to unsecured loans.Farmer harassed over loan kills selfA farmer in Bijnor allegedly killed himself after being harassed by bank officials from Sarva UP Gramin Bank for the repayment of a loan. The farmers family claimed that he was under relentless pressure and verbally abused by the officials. An FIR has been filed against unidentified bank officials in response to the sons complaint. The bank officials denied any wrongdoing and stated that they had no information about the loan amount.
