Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: With cases of fake disconnection notices sent by cyber criminals mounting, the MSEDCL has made a fresh appeal to consumers to not fall prey to such messages. The messenger IDs of MSEDCL while sending communication are VM-MSEDCL, VK-MSEDCL, AM-MSEDCL and JM-MSEDCL, which consumers must note. Also, consumers are never asked to contact any personal mobile number of any MSEDCL official in any official messages, public relations officer of MSEDCL, Aurangabad zone, Dnyaneshwar Ardad said. The state power utility also said that individual mobile numbers are never used while establishing contact with consumers. According to MSEDCL, several consumers continue to receive fake messages on their phones stating that their power supply will be disconnected due to pending electricity bill and they should contact the mobile number provided. The cybercriminals tell consumers to download remote control software. Once the software is downloaded, it helps fraudsters to gain control of the phone and siphon off money. Stating that it has filed police complaints earlier against such cybercrimes, MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to lodge a police complaint on cybercrime.gov.in if they come across any fake message. For queries or complaints, consumers should contact toll-free numbers 1912, 1800-212-3435 or 1800-233-3435 or approach the nearest offices, an MSEDCL official said.
