IMD issues orange alert for Sambhajinagar & Hingoli districts; hailstorms likely at some places

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Hingoli districts on Sunday and Monday, respectively, with chances of heavy rain and hailstorms at isolated places.The remaining parts of the region are also likely to experience light to moderate rain at several places during the early next week.Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar have also received an orange alert with chances of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds and hail at isolated places, IMD has said.Parts of Konkan and Central Maharashtra are likely to receive rainfall in the next 24 hours, the IMD has said.Citing the IMD forecast, K K Dakhore, an agricultural meteorologist with Parbhani-based Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, said there is the possibility of the formation of a cyclonic circulation in the South Andaman Sea and surrounding region by Sunday.It is likely to cause a low-pressure system over the adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, producing rains and hailstorms in parts of Marathwada and other areas in the state, Dakhore added.The possible weather change is likely to bring down the mercury level. The region is experiencing an increase in the temperature during nighttime for the last three days At 19.2 degrees celsius, the minimum temperature in Sambhajingar was hovering above the normal range by five degrees on Saturday.It is expected to come down 13 degrees by early next week, IMD has said.Meanwhile, agricultural experts have said the possible rain would cause little damage to crops. The harvesting of kharif crops is almost done in the majority of areas of the region. The extended cotton or pigeon pea crops will not be affected much due to the brief rainfall activity. IMD advises residents and travellers to stay updated with weather forecasts and follow local authorities advisory.Yellow alert for Mumbai for November 25-26: This weekend, expect rain in city, Thane & Palghar, says IMDThe IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar due to unseasonal rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. This rainfall is expected to improve the citys air quality, which currently has a moderate Air Quality Index (AQI) of 122. The IMD officials attribute the rainfall to a trough formed in the Bay of Bengal coast, moving towards the Maharashtra coastline. Earlier this month, several areas in Mumbai and neighboring districts experienced heavy rainfall.
