Dark & gloomy skies in Marathwada coincide with cyclone’s landfall in AP

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Most places in Marathwada reported dark cloud-covered skies on Wednesday afternoon as Cyclone Michaung made landfall in coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh.Though there was a prediction of light rain in several parts of Marathwada coinciding with the cyclones landfall, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city reported no rainfall activity till Wednesday evening.However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of more such showers in the region over the next 24 hours.Citing the IMD forecast, K K Dakhore, an agricultural meteorologist with the Parbhani-based Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, said the weather conditions are expected to return to normal in Marathwada by December 8. The region has undergone a weather change due to the impact of the cyclone. The usual dry winter weather is expected to return once the effect of the cyclone subsides, he said.Notably, Marathwada was lashed by unseasonal rainfall last month. The region, in fact, recorded nearly 400% of expected rainfall in November.Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city, meanwhile, recorded a minimum temperature of 19.2°C, which is above the normal range by six units, on Wednesday.Winter chill, which is felt Diwali onwards every year, has been missing this time.
