Toolkits given to former addicts

These addicts were reformed at the drug de-addiction centres run by the Punjab government in Bathinda and now they were completely devoid of any urge for drugs, he added. After consultations with them, it was decided that they would be offered toolkits, with which they could start work. They have now agreed to train other people discharged from the drug de-addiction centres in next few months, he said. The former addicts, a majority of them youngsters, would undergo training in computer and other courses at various centres run by the government, in collaboration with private centres, across the district.

Bathinda, June 25 Deputy Commissioner B Srinivasan today gave free toolkits to 25 reformed drug addicts, who have bid adieu to drugs. As per a release, the DC said the kits have been provided to those who promised to start their life afresh, albeit without drugs. While those who left their jobs due to drug addiction would continue their previous jobs, 10 others, who were earlier unemployed, would undergo three to four month training at various centers to start new ventures, he said. Srinivasan said the district administration was planning to hold the exercise every month for drug addicts who were getting treatment regularly from government de-addiction centers and OOAT clinics and wanted to continue their life without drugs. “We will seek help from the big companies with CSR funds. Utilisation of these funds and activities of beneficiaries will be monitored regularly,” said the DC. These addicts were reformed at the drug de-addiction centres run by the Punjab government in Bathinda and now they were completely devoid of any urge for drugs, he added. He said the administration had decided to keep them busy with some kind of job or work of their choice. After consultations with them, it was decided that they would be offered toolkits, with which they could start work. Some of them had earlier worked mechanics, carpenters, electricians and motor mechanics. They have now agreed to train other people discharged from the drug de-addiction centres in next few months, he said. The toolkits were distributed at a function organised at the Red Cross Bhawan. The DC also gave registration letters to others whose training course would start within next few days. The former addicts, a majority of them youngsters, would undergo training in computer and other courses at various centres run by the government, in collaboration with private centres, across the district. Among others present on the occasion were ADC (G) Sukhpreet Sidhu, Secretary of Red Cross Darshan Kumar, District Social Security Officer Naveen Gadwal, CSR officer of Guru Gobind Singh Refinery Hardeep Singh and refinery PRO Waheguru Pal Singh.
