Bathinda, July 20 The Punjab Students’ Union on Saturday intensified its protest against the Parents-Teacher Association fund being charged from the Scheduled Category students at Government Rajindra College during admission. The union leaders took out a protest march from the college to the Deputy Commissioner's office. Later, they submitted a memorandum of demands, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, to Naib Teshsildar. The college authorities and the union have been at loggerheads for the past few days with the former saying that there have been clear instructions from the state Education Department on the PTA funds. The union had staged a dharna on Thursday outside the office of the Government Rajindra College's principal. But it was termed unauthorised by the principal, saying that they (union leaders) didn't ask for permission to hold a protest. Sangeet Rani, a union leader, said, "We were forced to carry out a protest march. There is an atmosphere of fear in the college as the principal had called the police to suppress our voices. We have been told that the DC will meet the union leaders on Monday.”
