Commissioner takes stock of situation after heavy rain

He interacted with officials of different departments involved in helping the public in low-lying areas where stagnant water was being drained out. He gave special attention to the situation in low-lying areas where it had become a Herculean task to drain out rainwater. “Press every department of the government machinery into service to immediately drain out water from the low-lying areas,” he said during the meeting. The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction over the works being carried out to tackle waterlogging in Bathinda.

Bathinda, July 21 Commissioner of the Faridkot Division Ravinder Kumar Kaushik on Saturday took stock of the situation after heavy rain in Bathinda. Presiding over a meeting of senior administrative officials, he asked them to remain alert in view of the prevailing flood-like situation in and around the district. He interacted with officials of different departments involved in helping the public in low-lying areas where stagnant water was being drained out. “Taking care of the people, milch animals and pets is our top priority, so we should drain out the accumulated water in coordination with the officials who have been assigned the task of draining out water from low-lying areas,” the Commissioner said. He gave special attention to the situation in low-lying areas where it had become a Herculean task to drain out rainwater. “Press every department of the government machinery into service to immediately drain out water from the low-lying areas,” he said during the meeting. Kaushik appreciated the move of the district administration to hand out food packets to people in slum areas following a heavy rain on the first day in the city. He directed the senior officials to remain in touch with him and keep him informed about the ongoing works related to draining out of rainwater n all the urban and rural areas. During the meeting, the Commissioner was briefed about the works which had been done so far in different areas of the district in this connection. Deputy Commissioner B Srinivasan assured the Commissioner of taking all the precautionary steps and informed that the public too had been sensitised to the aftermath of waterlogging and help was also sought from non-governmental organisations in this regard. The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction over the works being carried out to tackle waterlogging in Bathinda.
