BHOPAL: A day after travelling 680km from Kanha in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia in Odisha, the relocated tiger has started adopting to his new environment and made its first kill on Friday. It is still in an enclosure where it spent the day in a pool. "I got a call from officers to say it’s doing perfectly well. They are hopeful about its release in the wild soon," said Sanjay Shukla , field director of Kanha National Park who was instrumental in the first-ever interstate translocation of a tiger. This tiger — MB2 — was selected from Kanha in compliance with NTCA guidelines . After a 22-hour road trip, it arrived in Satkosia around 1.30pm on Thursday where it was collared and shifted to an enclosure. "A tigress will be the next to go, possibly in the winter," said Shukla.Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey, however, has expressed concern over its safety. "The last living tiger of Satkosia was shifted to Nandan Kanan zoo as the only resort to save it from poachers. How are they going to ensure safety of MB2 or the five others that will be translocated there?" asked Dubey, adding, "There are 25 villages within the core area of Satkosia and 175 outside it. As far as I know petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan had pursued the MP government for shifting of tigers for his political mileage." Pradhan was elected to Rajya Sabha from MP in March 2018.
