MP: Farmer ends life, another warns on FB

BHOPAL: A farmer committed suicide in Sagar district on Tuesday while another farmer issued suicide warning in Harda.In a Facebook post, the farmer in Harda said, “If the government does not transfer the amount of chana (chickpea) sold in mandi on Minimum Support Price (MSP) soon, two farmers would commit suicide. The payment was pending for two months.”Body of Ramsevak Gond, 55, a tribal farmer, was found hanging in Maharajpur on Tuesday. His four sons and two daughters stay away in Gujarat. As his wife was crying bitterly and was not in condition to speak, no one was available to explain why did he commit suicide. However, the police denied debt or other reason related to farming behind the extreme step taken by the farmer.Hariram Mankar, station house officer of Maharajpur police station, told media, “The farmer committed suicide because of family dispute. He would drink and fight with wife.”However, investigations were on, he said, adding, the family persons were expected in a day or two.In Harda, about 340 kms away from Sagar, a farmer created sensation by issuing threat on a Facebook post. Narendra Babal, 32 , a farmer on July 10 threatened to commit suicide if the payment of chana sold by him in mandi on minimum support price was not made soon. He is resident of Dhangaon, about 12 kms away from Harda.His FB post said, “The soyabean sown by me after taking loan from money lenders has also damaged. How would I repay the loan if I do not get the payment of the minimum support price money of the chana”, he writes. Later the farmer told media that he had sold chana thrice in May.
