In MP, alliance with BSP for assembly polls will certainly be helpful, especially in the northern parts of MP, including Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa. “An alliance for the 2019 polls with like-minded parties to take on the BJP is a good idea. Congress’s Rajendra Bharti secured 44,300 while BSP’s Kalicharan Kushwah received 19,817 votes. Some of the BJP stalwarts could face tough competition if a Congress-BSP alliance takes shape. The same effect is also seen in over 29 seats in the six Bundelkhand districts.

Bhopal: Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh on Saturday said an alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will help Congress to have an upper hand in the Gwalior-Chambal and Rewa regions of the state. There are 31 assembly seats in the Chambal districts, where BSP has influence and usually takes away substantial number of votes. The same effect is also seen in over 29 seats in the six Bundelkhand districts. “An alliance for the 2019 polls with like-minded parties to take on the BJP is a good idea. In MP, alliance with BSP for assembly polls will certainly be helpful, especially in the northern parts of MP, including Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa. But I have no knowledge of the modalities for an alliance,” he said.BSP has only four MLAs at present — Sheela Tyagi from Mangawa in Rewa, Usha Choudhary from Raigaon in Satna, Balveer Singh Dandotia from Dimni in Morena and Satya Prakash Shakhwar from Ambah in Morena. Some of the BJP stalwarts could face tough competition if a Congress-BSP alliance takes shape. Home minister Bhupendra Singh who contested from Khurai in Sagar district secured 62,127 votes in the 2013 polls, while his nearest rival Congress’s Arunodaya Choubey got 56,043 —winning by a margin of only 5,084 .BSP’s Suresh Patel received 9,606 votes. If all goes well in the alliance, Bhupendra Singh would have to fight heavy odds.Higher education minister Jaibhan Singh Pavaiyya contested the 2013 polls from Gwalior and got 74,769 votes, his nearest rival Congress’s Pradhuman Singh Tomar got 59,208 votes and BSP’s Rekha Chandan Rai secured 14,417. The combined strength of Congress and BSP leaves former Bajrang Dal national chief Pavaiyya with a paper-thin margin of victory.Another important cabinet minister who could face a stiff fight is Narottam Mishra, who contested from Datia and got 55,997 votes. Congress’s Rajendra Bharti secured 44,300 while BSP’s Kalicharan Kushwah received 19,817 votes.
