Three years on, missing Vyapam files still a mystery

Vyapam whistleblower Ashish Chaturvedi, who was the first to raise the alarm on the missing files, wants an FIR to be registered.In 2015, Chaturvedi sought copies of several documents pertaining to Vyapam scam from Gajra Raja Medical College under RTI. Bhopal: On Friday, CBI completed three years of its Vyapam investigation, only to be confronted with an unsolved mystery — have several files pertaining to the scam gone missing from Gajra Raja Medical College in Gwalior?For the last two years, police are investigating whether the documents have actually gone missing and if yes, who is responsible. On January 19, 2016, the college administration said that the documents he sees are missing. “These are important documents and are evidence in several Vyapam cases in which prominent people are accused. The documents have been deliberately misplaced as part of a criminal conspiracy and legal action should be taken against officials responsible for this,” Chaturvedi alleged.

Vyapam whistleblower Ashish Chaturvedi, who was the first to raise the alarm on the missing files, wants an FIR to be registered.In 2015, Chaturvedi sought copies of several documents pertaining to Vyapam scam from Gajra Raja Medical College under RTI. On January 19, 2016, the college administration said that the documents he sees are missing. In June that year, he made a complaint at Jhansi Road police station, saying these documents are important evidence in the Vyapam scam and if they are missing, an FIR should be registered against the person responsible for maintaining those records.Local police investigation has got nowhere in the last two years. Jhansi Road police station in-charge Pankaj Tiwari told TOI, “The case is under investigation,” and refused to say anything else.Among the documents that Chaturvedi sought under RTI are the attendance register of employees for August 2011, the application made by an accused to the medical college for documents, and copies of two letters written by college officials regarding the Vyapam scam. “These are important documents and are evidence in several Vyapam cases in which prominent people are accused. The documents have been deliberately misplaced as part of a criminal conspiracy and legal action should be taken against officials responsible for this,” Chaturvedi alleged.
