Two feared dead after heavy rains in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Two people are feared to have died, after more than six hours of incessant rainfall in Madhya Pradesh state capital. Tuesday’s rainfall is being cited as the heaviest for this monsoon season.A four-year-old boy was feared dead after slipping in the major drain along Pancheel Nagar. Over 53 emergencies were reported till noon.Intense rainfall since 4 am morning has inundated many parts of the state capital. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward official Anil Tatewade said, “The incident occurred around 11.30 am. BMC staffer and water rescue experts, Asif Basheer rushed to Kaliasot Dam after distress call to BMC emergency centre.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward official Anil Tatewade said, “The incident occurred around 11.30 am. It is very unlikely for the child to survive. He is feared to have drowned in drain that flows from Panchal Nagar near MANIT university towards Shahpura Lake.” The missing child was identified as Dongu Bansal, son of Rohit Bansal.In another incident, a person is feared to have drowned in Kaliasot Dam, on the outskirts of the state capital. BMC staffer and water rescue experts, Asif Basheer rushed to Kaliasot Dam after distress call to BMC emergency centre. The unidentified caller warned of a student drowning in the water reservoir on the outskirts of the state capital.Meanwhile, BMC mayor Alok Sharma reached the BMC call centre which caters to monsoon related emergencies. Over 53 emergencies were reported till noon.Intense rainfall since 4 am morning has inundated many parts of the state capital. Reports of a tree collapse of a house in government quarters at Shivaji Nagar were confirmed by Sharma. Power outage and water logging has also been reported. Rainfall is expected to reduce in later part of the day, said Sharma.
