Tower drama lands 25-year-old man in jail

After parleys that lasted four long hours, the cops and the BMC officials finally managed to convince Mehra, a resident of Rajgarh. BHOPAL: A 25-year-old drunk man climbed a 120-foot tower in Gandhi Nagar and created ruckus, setting off panic among locals on Tuesday.Police and BMC fire officials, who reached the spot, had a tough time counselling the man, identified as Lakhan Mehra. A police team and BMC fire brigade officials, who rushed to the spot, spread nets along the ground below the tower in case the man falls off from the tower. BMC fire officer Sajid Khan, even offered Rs 500 to Mehra, who was imploring officials telling them that he was desperately poor. Mehra came to Bhopal around four months ago and was staying on the footpath here.

A case was registered against him under section 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC at Gandhi Nagar police station and he was arrested.Gandhi Nagar station in-charge Pravin Chouhan said that police got information around 12.30pm about a man who had climbed up the tower at Narsinghgarh trisection rotary. A police team and BMC fire brigade officials, who rushed to the spot, spread nets along the ground below the tower in case the man falls off from the tower. Mehra came to Bhopal around four months ago and was staying on the footpath here.
