BHOPAL: PCC chief Kamal Nath on Tuesday apologized for the absence of former CM Digvijaya Singh 's cutout at Congress president Rahul Gandhi 's rally at Dussehra Maidan on Monday."Digvijaya Singh is a respected leader, who was chief minister of the state for 10 years. His cutout missing at the programme is a huge mistake. I am personally very angry about this," Kamal Nath said, adding: "I apologise to him for this error." Digvijaya had on Monday played it down, saying he had asked that his cutout not be placed at the venue. But Digvijaya's wasn't. And it led to intense political speculation about faction fights in Congress. The gathering of party office-bearers, people’s representatives and workers were stunned to see Digvijaya missing from the leaders’ gallery. For BJP, the Congress controversy is a gift in election season.Cabinet minister and government spokesman Narottam Mishra said, “You won’t be able to crack the mystery behind the entire episode. Both Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh are senior, experienced and veteran politicians. No one, not even Congress party can assess what they are contemplating.”State Congress, however, had a different explanation. Speaking to TOI, PCC media committee chairperson Shobha Oza said, “This was not an omission on purpose by Kamal Nathji or any other leader. For the cut-outs, the party got all our leaders photographed and the former chief minister himself opted out. Digvijaya Singh did not want to get photographed for the cut-out but his pictures were there on banners and posters. Even on the dais and the campaign throughout the city, we had his photographs on posters.”
