Tea vendor meets rail minister, seeks help to stop eviction

BHOPAL: Union railway minister Piyush Goel during his visit to the Habibganj railway station here on Friday had an unscheduled visitor — a disabled woman vendor who sought his intervention for justice.The vendor, Seema Agrawal who runs a tea stall at platform No 4 alleged that the Bansal Pathways Habibganj Pvt Ltd — the private company redeveloping the station has evicted her from the platform.The 42-year-old woman in her complaint to the minister alleged that in June 2018, the electricity connection was disconnected at the tea stall. “We went to the court seeking justice . Court had given us a stay in July 2018. Despite this the stall was removed,” alleged Seema.She added that she has also filed contempt plea against the company and the hearing is on Monday. About the stall, Seema said it was in the name of her mother Uma Harishankar Agrawal. “According to 2010 policy the stall should have been transferred in my name after my mother’s death,” she said. Station’s redevelopment project manager Abu Asif, said the stall is hindering the redevelopment work. “We have to start work in the next two days on platform no-4. If the stall is not removed the work will get affected,”he said.He added that the license for running tea stall was in the name of Uma Harishankar Agrawal who died in April 2018. “The license was terminated after her death. Despite that her family members started creating trouble,” said Asif.He claimed that the stall still exists on the platform. "Other vendors shifted their stalls for redevelopment. I do not know what is the problem with this particular tea stall as they do not want to shift," said Seema. About the court orders, Asif said, "We will follow the instructions of the court. We have stopped looking at the stall."
