BHOPAL: Speaking at the fifth convocation of MP Bhoj Open University at state assembly auditorium on Friday, Governor Anandiben Patel said that the convocation is not only a function for distributing degree. Steps should be taken so that students can understand the importance of convocation, she said, adding, “Students should contribute to social empowerment. When students pay attention to solving problems of the society, the real purpose of education is served.”The Governor asked teachers to motivate students to study courses of their choice. She said distance education system is the one in which student can get education at any age. “Working women and others working in farm can take benefit from this system. The governor said there is no age for getting education,” she said. In all, 104 students received degrees, including PhD of 2016-17 academic year. There was a confusion in names of students during the event. One hundred and forty four students were invited to take their degrees.Indira Gandhi National (Open) University New Delhi Vice Chancellor Dr Nageshwar Rao also addressed the gathering and said, “Students should face challenges. In a mix-up organisers had forgotten to felicitate him, but, feted him after the function.Bhoj university VC DD Agrawal threw light on university activities and said motto of MP Bhoj Open University is to avail education opportunity to all students living in remote areas.
