Coins worth Rs 5.5 lakh seized from Guna bus

BHOPAL: In an interesting catch, electoral officers seized coins worth Rs 5.5 lakh in the denomination of Rs 5 and Rs 2, which were being transported illegally in a bus at Guna district on Sunday morning.The total weight of the 1.85 lakh coins, which were kept in 16 gunny bags is more than 1,079 kilogram!Guna collector and district election officer B Vijay Dutta said, “The coins were being transported on a bus with the registration number UP-92 T 9455, which was on its way to Surat in Gujarat from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and was detected at around 6am by the static surveillance team”.“The coins were being carried by a person identified as Pervez, a resident of Kanpur”, Dutta added.“The surveillance team handed over the coins to the local police for further action,” Dutta said, adding that there were some silver coins too.Sources said the surveillance team officials developed doubts when they found the gunny bags to be extremely heavy.
