Bhopal: Two cases of rape on pretext of marriage were registered in the city in the last 24 hours. The complainants in both the cases are in their 20s, said police.In a case registered at Aishbagh police station, a 20-year-old alleged that she was raped repeatedly by a youth on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been identified as Ankit , a resident of Subhash Nagar . The accused’s mother runs a beauty parlour where he met the woman.The two started talking to each other over texts and soon became friends. He called her to his home sometime in January, said police, and raped her, promising to marry her. Over the days, he raped her repeatedly, but, when the woman asked him to marry her, he went back on his word. The woman then approached the police and field a case.The accused works as a private employee and lives with his mother. The matter is under investigation and the accused would be nabbed soon, said police.In another case reported at TT Nagar, a 27-year-old woman alleged that her nephew for years, who promised to marry her. Police said the accused, who is younger than the woman, stepped back from his promise and she came to know that he was planning to marry someone else and reported the matter to police. The accused hails from Uttar Pradesh and is yet to be nabbed, police added.Police said the complainant is a resident of Nehru Nagar area and the accused has been identified as Dharmendra Pratap. Incidentally, the survivor is a distant aunt of accused. They met in the year 2013 and the accused got close to her. He then ‘outraged the modesty’ of the woman and promised to marry her when she resisted.Police said the accused took her to different hotels in the city and kept raping her. On November 6, the accused and survivor talked on phone and when she came to know that he is getting married to someone else, she lodged a police complaint.Officials said accused hails from Pratapgarh in UP and would tell his family members that he is going to New Delhi, but would instead come to Bhopal to meet her.The accused would be nabbed soon, police said.
