We are still keeping an eye and have not removed the cages”, said forest ranger, A K Jhawar who is leading the operation.Residents are scared since theleopard was spotted in the CCTV camera of the Gupta family. Van Vihar director, Sameeta Rajpora told TOI that residents need not be scared of the leopard as it is not a man-eater and was spotted only at night.“This phenomenon was first seen at Mumbai when leopards started prowling in urban areas located near the forests as they could easily prey on stray dogs. It was sighted at Shahpura hunting stray dogs and was not spotted very often. It is just one-to-two years old and is not a threat to the residents. Besides, it only comes out when there is no human activity and is pretty scared of the humans itself ”, she said. The leopard, when caught, will be taken to Van Vihar where the veterinary doctors will perform its medical examination.“If the leopard is fit to survive in the wild, we will release it in the forest again, which is its natural habitat. Otherwise it will be kept in the national park if it is injured or unfit”, she added.
