Bhopal: The opposition BJP on Thursday staged a walkout from the House demanding implementation of the 10% quota for poor in general category in accordance with the 124th Constitutional Amendment Bill passed by Parliament last month. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Gopal Bhargava said the Congress government is not interested in extending this benefit to youths in the state.“Ten states have already implemented this quota. But the Congress government in the state is trying to deny this benefit to unemployed youth by resorting to tactics of forming a sub-committee on the issue. We protest government's dillydallying the implementation,” said Bhargava while staging a walkout from the House. The matter came up during the Zero Hour when Bhargava along with former ministers Narottam Mishra and Vishwas Sarang reiterated their demand to execute the EWS quota in government jobs and educational institutes in the state. When BJP leaders alleged that the Congress government was discriminating against the general category youths as a conspiracy, members from treasury and Opposition heated verbal exchange. On Wednesday, the BJP MLAs had raised the quota issue after which chief minister Kamal Nath announced formation of a cabinet sub-committee, saying his government was “in principle” ready to grant the quota. In the meantime, Speaker Narmada Prasad Prajapati adjourned the House for five minutes when he found the MLAs and ministers roaming in the House and did not pay heed to his appeal. When the House resumed, Bhargava and Mishra again raised the issue of EWS quota. Mishra alleged the government was playing with the future of the general category youth. “What was the need to form a cabinet sub-committee on the issue instead of implementing the quota immediately,” Mishra asked.GAD minister Govind Singh tried put across the government’s stand on the issue, saying reservation for the general category was one of promises in the Congress’ Vachan Patra and the government was ready to implement it.“The cabinet sub-committee to be formed would decide on issues such as eligibility criteria, process and for finding out how many persons fall under the EWS category,” said Singh. The minister's reply did not satisfy BJP MLAs. To press for their demands, BJP leaders and Mishra reached the well of the House. Bhargava alleged that the Congress government did not want to give poor their constitutional right, hence the opposition members were staging a walkout.
