Lok adalats settle 1.51 crore cases in six years

Civil disputes, pre-litigation cases, insurance and land acquisition cases were placed before the lok adalats for settlement. In 2016, 2871146 cases were presented for settlement in lok adalats , out of which 1096979 cases were disposed of and award of Rs 98,20,576,067 was passed in favour of litigants.In 2017, 3041171 cases came up before lok adalats , out of which 3434320 cases were settled and award of Rs 9131202990 given to litigants. Bhopal/Jabalpur: More than 1.51 crore cases were disposed through mutual consent of litigants in lok adalats organized across the state in the past six years.According to figures provided by the State Legal Aid Authority, a total of 2,58,36,004 cases were presented for disposal at lok adalats held in Madhya Pradesh between 2013 to 2018 and 1,51,28,000 of them were disposed of at the lok adalats organized between 2013 to 2018, which means that 60 percent of the cases were successfully disposed of by courts. Similarly, 26,42,480 cases came up for settlement before lok adalats in 2018, 309119 of these were disposed of through mutual consent of litigants and award of Rs 10,47,935,1811 was passed in favour of litigants. In 2014, 90,17,379 cases were placed for disposal in lok adalats organized during the year, out of which 77,34,373 cases were disposed of and award of Rs 1226129489 was passed.In the subsequent year, 5252090 cases came up for settlement in lok adalats across the state and 3040929 cases were settled through mutual consent of litigants and award of Rs 24,95,98,575,60 was passed in favour of litigants.

During the course of disposal of cases, courts also passed decrees awarding a whopping sum of Rs 72,75,00,00,000 to the litigants.Member secretary of the State Legal Aid Authority Vijay Chandra, while giving break-up of cases disposed each year from 2013 to 2018, said that 3011768 cases were placed for disposal in 2013, out of which 20,03,878 cases were disposed of and awards worth Rs 61,06,11,1614 were passed.
