Shootout in Old city: Cops claim vital clues, arrests soon

BHOPAL: Police have claimed of getting vital clues in the incident wherein three unidentified bike-borne men allegedly fired three shots at a jeweller’s driver in Marwari road area in Old city on Saturday night. Before the local people around could react, the accused snatched his bags and ran towards their bike parked nearby and fled the spot brandishing pistol. Around 9.30pm Abdul, carrying the bags, was walking towards the car when the three accused waylaid him and fired three shots with a pistol. The three accused had fled after snatching two bags from him.Police said on Sunday that have got the CCTV footage of the incident and the accused would be nabbed soon. A case under sections of Arms Act and murderous assault has been registered in the incident.

A case under sections of Arms Act and murderous assault has been registered in the incident. On why sections of loot were added in the FIR, police said the sections would be increased as investigation proceeds.In protest of the incident, the Sarafa association called for a bandh on Monday. The members will also stage a dharna, said Harinarayan Goyal, member of Sarafa association. The driver, who received bullet wounds on his shoulder, abdomen and ribs, was rushed to a private hospital in Fatehgarh by locals where his condition is said to be critical, but out of danger.Congress leader Digvijaya Singh , minister P C Sharma and party MLA from Bhopal North and minister Arif Aqueel visited the spot and later met the injured driver at the hospital. They spoke to the local residents and police officials.Abdul Rehman, 32, a resident of Budhwara, works as driver at Agrawal Jewellers’ for the past nine years. The jewellery shop is owned by Jay Mohan Agrawal. Vyas said Abdul had come on duty around 10 am. As usual he parked his employer’s car near Unani Shafakhana. Around 9.30pm Abdul, carrying the bags, was walking towards the car when the three accused waylaid him and fired three shots with a pistol. Before the local people around could react, the accused snatched his bags and ran towards their bike parked nearby and fled the spot brandishing pistol.
