In the series of museum's popular lecture on Friday, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organised an online special lecture on the occasion of World Environment Day 2020. In this lecture, Ramnish Geer, Joint Director, C.B.I., Bhopal, delivered lecture on the Topic “Caring for the Environment- Post Pandemic” through Online via Facebook. At the beginning of the programme, Praveen Kumar Mishra, Director, IGRMS apprised all from Ramnish Geer and said that Geer - A civil engineer by education, joined CBI as DY. SP in 1994 through civil services examination. Has mainly worked in the field of anti Corruption and economic offences, also have experience of cyber crime and conventional crimes. Has worked in CBI branches at Delhi, Mumbai, Gandhi Nagar and presently as Joint Director Bhopal Zone, with jurisdiction over MP, Chattisgarh and 1/3rd of Maharastra. Also worked in CBI Academy and was deployed as a peace keeper with United Nations Mission in Sudan. Having more than 26 years of experience in criminal investigation, he got interested in wildlife about 5 years ago. Captures the wildlife through his camera on weekends, which gave opportunity to understand different aspects of nature and its impact on daily life of humans as well as flora and Fauna. On this occasion, Dr. Mishra said in his message that, The United Nations has dictated the theme for World Environment Day 2020 is, 'Time for Nature,' whose main purpose is to make people aware of it. Nature has cleared and River, sea, animals have found new life in the lockdown period. In addition, there is a temporary reduction in the emission of toxic gases and a dramatic reduction in air pollution. Definitely this peace has changed our environment and there has been a lot of change in civilization, economy and social structure due to this epidemic. Ramnish Geer while addressing online via Facebook Watch Live and said that, has a positive impact on the environment. It is our responsibility to take care of our nature now. Every person has to understand that life is possible on this earth only when the environment is clean. I got opportunity to learn about behaviour of the birds and animals, effect of seasons and nature on wildlife as well as on humans. How the greed of humans is accelerating the extinction of species, like the Great Indian Bustard. My interaction with nature also helped me in learning patience. I am still a learner and want to know more. But with this little experience, I am here in front of you to share few thoughts of mine on the occasion of World Environment Day. We all have read that World has seen drastic change in the environment from time to time, effecting the life on the planet in one form or other. It has been responsible for the extinction of many prehistoric species and evolution of new forms of life. These environmental changes have not only threatened the existence of the life on our planet but has also effected the mutations in the living organisms. The result of these mutations is visible in the form of emergence of new diseases like HIV, Ebola, SARS, Dengue, to name a few and the latest Corona Virus named as Covid-19. It is seen that these new generation of diseases are becoming more and more difficult to handle. Recent Pandemic caused by Covid 19 virus, has a unique character of origin and rapid spread, which is mainly attributed to the life style and work culture. It is a harmful result of human and wildlife interaction, where lust of exotic food led to transmission of the virus from wild to humans which further became a global pandemic due to globalisation of human society, where the people are not restricted to their native places or neighbourhoods but on one hand the need for livelihood has forced both the rich and poor to migrate to places far off and on other hand, ease of transportation made man a world traveller for pleasure too. Introspecting on present circumstances, Ramnish read a poem titled "Ek Aur Vishwayuddha".
