Vyapam scam: BU gets ultimatum from CBI over PMT-2012 documents

Bhopal: The CBI team investigating Vyapam scam on Friday summoned and questioned registrar and two deputy registrars of Barkatullah University for the second time. Shukl was accompanied by deputy registrars Ajit Srivastava and Yeshwant Patel.They were questioned for more than 30 minutes, said sources. Shukl has joined the university recently.Sources say university officials were not providing original document despite repeated requests by the agency.CBI is examining the correspondence between university and private medical colleges during the MBBS admission in 2012. Insiders say, role of some university officials are under scanner for violation of the admissions protocol.CBI had earlier sought details of BU officials who were in-charge of eligibility, enrolment and examination documents of the MBBS students in 2012. They were questioned about MBBS admissions held in 2012-13 session, said sources.The registrar, was questioned earlier in February too.Sources said CBI had given an ultimatum to the registrar U N Shukl asking him to provide all original documents of the candidates who had secured admissions in private medical colleges after clearing PMT-2012.

Insiders say, role of some university officials are under scanner for violation of the admissions protocol.CBI had earlier sought details of BU officials who were in-charge of eligibility, enrolment and examination documents of the MBBS students in 2012. Agency suspects that the private colleges had tampered the list of students collecting it directly from the office of director of medical education in stark defiance of set norms.Earlier, CBI had in a letter sought information from BU on eight points pertaining to admission process. Shukl has joined the university recently.Sources say university officials were not providing original document despite repeated requests by the agency.CBI is examining the correspondence between university and private medical colleges during the MBBS admission in 2012. Therefore the varsity officials were asked to share and contact numbers of officials accountable for the admissions proceedings in that year and their background.The probe agency took over investigation into the 'examination scam' after more than 40 accused, beneficiaries, whistle-blowers and witnesses died mysteriously, triggering fears of a systematic attempt to scuttle the inquiry. The names of many top bureaucrats and politicians had cropped up in the probe.However, the agency has not been able to make any significant breakthrough in the case. They had been following the lines of MPSTF.At least 2,800 people have been arrested and hundreds are wanted in the scandal with multiple rackets helping candidates manoeuvre the examinations for money, including employing impostors to write test papers, manipulating seating arrangements as well as supplying forged answersheets.
